John Maple lives at number 54 Alexandra Road. His pride and joy are his British classic cars. Having noticed the rare display of vintage vehicles outside his home I couldn't pass the chance of being able to photograph them.
Happily, John was more than happy to give me a thorough tour with his friend Geoff, also a member of the same classic car club, who popped by for a chat. Of the three cars he keeps at home, the one road-worthy vehicle, his 1962 Singer Gazelle saloon, is parked proudly out on the roadside. The other two are quite simply left for aesthetical purposes, or perhaps to the effects of weather and time. John's beloved Rover 95, aptly named for its ability to reach such a speed on the motorway, is "a week away from a good washing" he tells me. Whilst the unfortunate 1961 Lotus Sunbeam, having been one of the best looking cars of its time, has rusted away into the driveway becoming somewhat part of the home itself.
John is a British vintage motor enthusiast who has promised me a visit to each of the members of his classic car membership's homes for a thorough tour of our motoring heritage in the near future. All in all it's safe to say I am glad I knocked on his door.
