These were basically the pick-n-mix of the soviet wider airforce. During the 50's, 60's and 70's the Russians effectively handed them out like sweets so that all of their eastern friends had something to play with and make noises in the sky to show they had presence in the air. They were never groundbreaking by any means but they certainly caused a nuisance and in that sense it was job done. Throughout their service nearly three thousand were made and used by Russia, Angola, Iraq, Libya, Peru, Poland, Syria and Yemen. Ending service in the early 90's when their Soviet gang was disbanded.
