The mill and the whole of Bilberry woods is now public land, and public right of way, so this whole section of the estate was probably cut off at the same time which explains why no machinery seems to have ever been removed from site. It doesn’t appear to have achieved listed status which seems crazy to me given the historical ‘circle’ it exists in, but I’m not sure what help it’d provide at this point. Some of these ruins are just a treat to watch through the decades as they slowly change and crumble. The old castle (seen below) is a 13th century ruin making it one of the oldest parts of the estate and is open at certain times of the year (I know, sometimes I don’t trespass, shock!) so I’ll be sure to check that out next.
