Eventually we get the full panorama of the Palladian hall itself. Decidedly less imaginative in its design, yet significantly larger than the old hall, it is now roughly 250 years old, operates under private ownership, and has acted as a care home since 1988 for people who retire with more money than their bodies can manage. Weddings and such can be held here. The usual stately home business. Yet despite not needing much protection and remaining in pristine condition this one is Grade I listed, and the 700 year old hall in need of desperate attention is only Grade II. There must be some sense in that decision somewhere. If anyone figures out where feel free to let me know.
