Otherwise known as Norton Aqueduct due to the immediate views of Norton Tower. The aqueduct passes over what is now known as the West Coast Main line operated by London Northwestern Railway from Warrington Bank Quay to London. It was originally a section of the Grand Junction Railway, Britain’s first trunk railway that connected Liverpool, Manchester & Birmingham in 1837. At the time, the meeting of the Bridgewater canal and Trent & Mersey canal at Preston Brook meant that it was a trading location of local importance and it even had its own station until 1958. Records of the aqueduct’s immediate relationship with the railway are hard to come by, as it is worth noting that the canal preceded the railway by almost 80 years which suggests that the railway line would have been constructed beneath the canal, rather than an aqueduct initially built from the onset. There is no record of it being listed. GPS Coordinates: 53.324311, -2.652412
