The next stage in the process is when the wool gets fed into the ‘devil’ which breaks up the fibres and combines the colours of the wool into an even mix. From there, it was fed into the carding set, which was a series of heavy drum rollers that pulled and stretched the fibres of the wool into yarn. Different weights on the rollers would be used according to what the fabric was intended to be used for.
